Tips on winterizing your boat to survive the winter
Just reminding you to winterize your boat! If you haven't yet, your boat could be subject to these things:
Belts can crack.
Fuel can turn bad.
Engine block and heads can crack.
Exhaust risers and manifolds can crack.
Transmission cooler could freeze.
Heater core can freeze if you have a heater in the boat.
First:
Be sure your gas tank is full to keep out condensation and that it has stabilizer in it to keep your fuel fresh. Change the fuel filter.
Change engine and transmission fluids.
Run engine long enough so stabilizer goes through entire fuel system.
Second:
Fog cylinders with spray fogging oil.
Spray into carburetor or throttle body while engine is running (each cylinder if multi port injection).
Remove all engine and exhaust manifold drain plugs.
Consult manufacturer or dealer for catalyst exhaust system winterization procedures.
Third:
Loosen your alternator belt and raw water pump belt so they are in a relaxed position.
Remove your impeller from the raw water pump and keep it in a seal tight bag.
Fourth:
Rotate your steering wheel from lock-to-lock position two or three times a month to keep cable lubricated and help eliminate condensation problems.
Disconnect and store your battery according to manufacturer's instructions.
